School District Employee: Good afternoon. Lemon Grove School District.
Parent: Hi. I'm calling for information on school registration. I think my son should attend one of the schools in your district.
School District Employee: What grade will your son be entering?
Parent: He just turned five. He'll be starting school this year.
School District Employee: Oh, okay. One moment, please. I'll get the information for kindergarten registration. Okay. Thank you. Can you give me your address?
Parent: Yes. It's 7418 Dimarino Street.
School District Employee: Okay. Thanks. Yes. 1At that address, your child should attend Monterey Heights Elementary.
Parent: Can you spell that, please?
School District Employee: 1Yes. It's M O N T E R E Y Heights.
Parent: Great. So how do I register him?
School District Employee: We have registration at each school site Monday through Thursday from nine to one. Oh, no. Sorry. 01:30. You'll need to pick up a kindergarten registration packet from the school beforehand, though. It has all the forms you'll need to fill out.
Parent: Can I pick up the packet anytime?
School District Employee: Sure. The school office is usually open till 03:30 in the afternoons.
Parent: Oh, no. I can't really get there that early.
School District Employee: Well, the school has late office hours until four on Thursdays, 2or I think you can pick up a packet in the school library any day before five.
Parent: Oh, okay. I'll stop by there someday this week then before five. Can you tell me what forms we'll need? I'm sure you need his immunization records.
School District Employee: Yes. Those. 3And we also need a general health history signed by your child's doctor, a form filled out by the dentist, emergency contact information, and a residency verification form with proof of residence. Oh, and an original birth certificate.
Parent: Okay. That shouldn't be a problem. Can I ask one more question?
School District Employee: Sure. Go ahead.
Parent: I was wondering about before and after school care. 4Do you provide transportation after school?
School District Employee: 4No. Unfortunately, we don't. Parents or caregivers need to pick up the children. 5There is, however, an on-site licensed day care for working parents who need after school care for their children. It's housed within the school grounds, and someone from the day care will walk to the main school building to pick up your child each day. 6It's run by the City Youth Council and comes highly recommended.
Parent: Can I get information about that as well?
School District Employee: Yes. Flyers and contact information will be included with your packet.
Parent: Okay. Thank you.
Parent: Oh, and one more thing. I saw a flyer recently for an introduction event for new students and parents, an open house, I think it was called, but I can't remember the date. Was it August 3rd?
School District Employee: That must have been last year's flyer. We haven't put out information on this year's open house yet, but it'll probably be sometime in August. Ah, no. Actually, it will be in July this year since schools start a little early year. 7Once your child is registered, you'll get all that information in the mail, and it'll be on the school website as well.
Parent: Great. I'm assuming that during the open house, 8we get to tour the school and meet our child's teacher?
School District Employee: Yes. And you will set up a time for kindergarten entrance testing as well.
Parent: Wow. Testing already. That starts early.
School District Employee: Well, we wanna make sure children are properly placed and qualified for special services if necessary.
Parent: Okay. I guess that makes sense. Oh, and the first day of school?
School District Employee: 9The first day will be August 19th. We start in the middle of the week to help with the adjustment. And for kindergartners, the first three days are half days from eight to 12:30.
Parent: Oh, okay. 10And then the next week, the regular schedule, 08:00 to 2:05 will be in force.
School District Employee: Yes. And you can access the full school calendar of holidays and breaks on the school website.
Parent: Oh, yeah. I've seen that. The website is very helpful. Thank you so much for your time.
School District Employee: You're welcome, sir.
