MAN: Good afternoon. You must be Clare Allan. I understand you would like to apply for the role as a camp counsellor at Pebble Creek Summer Camp.
CLARE: That's right.
1MAN: Great. What we are looking for is a leader for a group of children who will be attending the camp this summer.
The person who gets the job needs to be self-motivated, reliable and hard-working. We need someone with a range of skills who has experience with camping.
CLARE: Yes, I have those skills. The advertisement also mentioned sports, I think?
MAN: Yes, we are looking for someone who can take the lead in sports.2We do many sports, including football and swimming, but for this role we want someone who is a specialist in tennis.
We are looking for someone who can teach the children this game, as we think it is a healthy, active sport to play.
CLARE: Absolutely! Actually I was a coach in a middle school before, so teaching those kids shouldn't be a problem.
MAN: That's great! That's what we are looking for. The next requirement is that we need someone who is available for most of the summer. Do you have any questions for me?
CLARE: Yeah. I’ve heard that the camp will last about 12 weeks. Is that true?
3MAN: Well, it will only take about 8 weeks. For the first half of the period, we will just run Daytime activities.
And for the rest of the time, the counsellor will also need to travel with the children, and the trip will last about 3-4 weeks.
CLARE: Sounds good to me, I love travelling! Will it start next month, in May?
4MAN: No, we will begin at the start of June.
CLARE: I see, that's good. Should I do some preparation for that?
5MAN: Oh yes! You would need to participate in some training for the first week.
Because it's such a position with great responsibilities, we need to make sure you know how to act in a safe way, as a good example to the children.
CLARE: What about the salary? How much does the job pay?
MAN: The pay will be about £7 per hour.
CLARE: How much does that work out to be for the whole eight weeks? About £1,000?
6MAN: After week 8, you will receive £985.
{[CLARE: That's OK for me. Do I have to pay for my insurance?
MAN: Yes, I am afraid you will have to. We would leave it up to you to choose which one you prefer to go with.][7]}
CLARE: Ok I will keep that in mind. Is there any bonus for working for this camp company?
8MAN: You won't get a car to drive or anything like that, but we do offer some discounts exclusively for our staff if you choose to travel with some of our tour products.
CLARE: That all sounds good to me. Is there a minimum age for the job? I just turned 19, would that be a problem?
9MAN: We would prefer someone over the age of 21, but applicants over 18 are also considered if they can prove that they are mature, capable and able to work safely.
CLARE: Are there any other requirement I would need to fulfil?
10MAN: If we hire you, you would also need to register with the police department here in the UK, since you are not a British citizen.
I think the fee is about £36. Is there anything else you want to ask?
CLARE: I guess that's pretty much what I need to know.
MAN: Cool! You will hear from us sometime next week as we have some other applicants to interview at the moment. Thank you for coming in today.
CLARE: OK, I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you for taking the time to meet with me today.
