Hi Katie, it’s good to see you. How are your studies going?

Last time I saw you, you weren’t sure whether to continue with your major.

Well, I’m still thinking about changing my major.

You’re doing a major in physiology, right?

Yes that’s right, but I am not really enjoying it.

I would prefer to do something that involves a career working with people.

Oh, you are already in your third year. Is it just because it’s difficult to decide to change – perhaps you need more advice from the university staff?

1Not really, the main reason is that if I switch to another subject in which I might not excel, I won’t have enough credit points to pursue honors.

I see. But it’s a pity to continue with something you don’t enjoy for that reason.

That’s true. I have telephoned my parents though, which was helpful.

Did they help you to make your decision?

They’re paying for your course, maybe that’s why you wanted to consult with them...?

2Actually, they just know me very well and I think their advice is reliable.

Well I am surprised that you don’t enjoy your major.

3As far as I know, the teacher is known to be excellent, and my friend Jack told me that the students usually find good jobs when they graduate.

Maybe that is true for some people, but I just struggle to learn anything in that class.

I guess I just don’t connect with the teaching style.

But as I said, don’t forget to consider your future job prospects. I understand that in physiology, you can get higher paying jobs.

I’m not too concerned about that, I’m even less worried about my credits.

4I’m most worried about catching up on lessons I have missed if I change majors.

Many students take this subject because they think it’s practical and less theoretical.

Do you think so as well?

5I’m really bored in class and I’m not sure if it’s practical for finding a job.

Interest in the subject is what drives me to learn.

So what are you thinking of changing to?

Actually I am thinking I’d like to be a physical education teacher.

Do you think you know enough about physical education? Have you talked to some of the current students to get their opinion on the course?

6Not really, I think it will be better to consult the tutor about it. His name is Professor Mills and I’m hoping to speak with him tomorrow.

And hopefully he can tell me how much extra the course will cost.

7Hmm, I’m not sure he will be able to tell you that, actually I think you will need to talk to the Finance Office.

And you will need to ask for the start date of the new course so that you will know how much to pay – you won’t have to pay for the entire course if you start late.

Oh really? I did not know that.

By the way, it is all very stressful and I’m not sleeping very well at the moment because I’m so worried about things.

Sorry to hear that.

8Did you know that you can contact the Welfare Director? She is available to talk to any student about problems or stresses.

You should send her an email, her address is on the notice board.

Thanks Jason, I had forgotten that. I will definitely email her.

9And I also just remembered that I think you need to contact the Administration Office before starting the new course – I’m sure the professor will be able to tell you the contact information.

You are right.

10I think that I will also need to inform the head of the residence hall too.

Anyway, good luck and hope you’ll make the right decision for your future.

Thank you!
